Mayhap A Proper Introduction Would Be Better...
Hello, my name's Liesse, though feel free to call me Chesid.

I'm 17, and I've been a Ramones fan since I was a little kid. My paarents brought me up correctly; by age six I was able to identify the equivalent of three of their albums by hearing only a small piece of the songs.

At age 12, I went and visited CBGB's (and still have the shirt to prove it... my god, it still fits, as well).

When I heard of Joey's death, I took the day off from school.
I heard of DeeDee's death a year later, and did the same again.
I didn't hear of Johnny's death, however, until I was already at school. Imagine having a shitty day at school.. and then your friend notices at lunch that you're wearing your Ramones shirt... "Hey, Liesse... did you hear? One of them died." She didn't have to even tell me who; I just knew it was Johnny. And then I just started bawling right there in the middle of the hallway.

For my Halloween costume two years ago, I came to school dressed as Joey. Ripped jeans, tennis shoes, sunglasses and all (my hair was the only thing that went wrong; it had started raining unexpectedly right when I got off the bus). I dressed as DeeDee the following spring, when our school had a "Rock Star Day".

Whenever it's one of their birthdays, the anniversary of one of their deaths... I wear my Ramones shirt.

I have every single album, though only three on CD. This doesn't include my two anthology sets. I phoned in a complaint when one of our rock stations here in the Bay Area had a "New York Specials" weekend, but didn't play anything from the Ramones. Whenever I do hear one of their songs on the radio, it gets cranked to its loudest setting, no matter what song.

Fanatic? Possibly. I just consider myself a loyal fan.

Now, the only question is,

"Where are my safety pins? What'd you do with my safety pins? What is this?"

Alas, today would have been Johnny's 57th birthday....

chuo 89.1fm's "What The...?" traces the Ramones' roots this Monday from 3:30pm to 5pm!!!
"Well, the thing that's wild about the Ramones is, we have the broad spectrum of an audience. I guess the average age now is 16 and younger, and then we have some of the original fans, older fans, kids into metal, thrash, hardcore, grunge. Then we have Republicans and Democrats and skinheads, and it's just this potpourri of people who wanna have a good time." - Joey Ramone, circa 1994

Not only were the Ramones highly influencial, having fuelled a whole generation of musicians and music lovers, but they themselves have found inspiration in their peers and forebears.

Throughout their 21-year career, the Ramones have consistently returned back to their roots, paying hommage to their idols by recording their own versions of these all-time favourites in their own inimitable style. Whether it be on album, single, or compilation, the Ramones always found a way to expand our minds to artists that we wouldn't otherwise have known or bothered discovering; from soul all the way to metal, the Ramones (re)introduced us to 1910 Fruitgum Company, Davie Allan & The Arrows, Freddy Cannon, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Bob Dylan, Bobby Freeman, Jefferson Airplane, Love, Chris Montez, Motorhead, The Amboy Dukes, The Animals, The Beach Boys, The Boyfriends, The Chamber Brothers, The Dave Clarke Five, The Doors, The Music Explosion, The Riviera, The Rolling Stones, The Ronettes, The Searchers, The Seeds, The Trashmen, The Troggs, Johnny Thunders, Ritchie Valens, Tom Waits, and The Who in creative and engaging ways .

On this week's show, we here at "What The..?" will feature all the covers that the Ramones recorded (with the exception of a few 'Acid Eaters' tracks, due to time constraints) back-to-back, in chronological order - that is, following the order in which they were first released by the original artists.

We've compiled all these ditties from a variety sources, including a few 'rarities', to explore how the Ramones' sound mixes in with musical creations from distant eras - starting with 1958 all the way up to 1993.

Do these tracks retain their original flavour, or do the Ramones eclipse the material with their unrivaled raw energy?

We'll leave that for you to decide this Monday from 3:30pm to 5:00pm (eastern), as we serve a heaping plate of Ramones rehash on CHUO 89.1FM's "What The...?" - the only Radio With Multiple Personalities!!!

Please note that "What The...?" can also be heard on the web via chuo.fm

I'm thinking of making a Ramones icontest community, and I was just wondering if there already is one, and if not, if anyone would join if I created one.

For those who don't know, an icontest community is basically an icon contest- there's a challenge with a certain picture or theme, and the members make icons which are voted on to decide which is best. The winner gets a banner they can display in their userinfo. :)

[I'm thinking this isn't OT, but if it is, just say so and I'll take care of it.]

Iim so fucking happy!!!
Stooges,NewYork Dolls,Patti Smith,Iggy Pop,Motorhead,Metallica.

Does anyone know who Marky has fronting him for his mini tour he is on now?? He played in Charlotte the other night and i did not get a chance to catch all of their names. the guy on vocals name was david divine that much i am sure of. ...but i am pretty sure he said what group they were. i am sure it is not the speed kings nor Invaders or Intruders...my guess is that it is just a group of people he picked to tour with him. the guitarist name might be CJ something but not sure, i am sure i have seen him in another band before, all of the guys were fairly young in their 30s....the opening band was from charlotte and were only playing that date and Jeff Clayton from Antiseen came out and sang Blitzkrieg Bob, one of the many Ramones songs his band covers.
